People search the trunks of jigily (Lysiphyllum cunninghamii- bauhinia) and gardgu (Eucalyptus affin. Terminalias- inland bloodwood) trees for the biyarrimbin’s wax entrance to its nest. The nest then reaped of its nulu (honey) and jimbu (yellow bee cake).
Another food collected in Larja is Bina (Xyleutes leucomochla-witchetty grub), found in the Jigarr (anthill). The Bina are dug out, thrown onto the hot sand eaten. In Mankala these will become the insects we see that fly around the lights at night.
Another type of Bina eaten is the larvae of the liyirr (Henicopsaltria fullo-cicada). This particular bina is found along the roots of the Gunurru (Eucalyptus zygophlla- white gum) tree and the Wirnki (Frankenia ambita- saltbush). It can be eaten raw or cooked in hot ash before being eaten.
