Habitat: Scrubland

Season: Mankala

Plant Life : ( including of seasonal change, plants growing rapidly, plants flowering, plants fruiting).

Plants are rapidly growing and many are in fruit.

Garnburr ( Melaleuca Viridflora- paperbark) trunks and bark were used to build shelters.

Guyarabi ( Planchonia careya- cocky apple) and Ngaliwany ( persoonia falcata- wild pear ) fruit are ready to pick.

Gabiny ( Terminalia ferdinandiana – billygoat plum),Guwal ( fleuggea virosa – dogwood bush ) and

Magabala( Marsdenia viridflora- bush banana) all have fruit now which is ready to eat.

The young Darlab ( Brachychiton diversiffolius – Northern Kurrajong);

Junjudany, have edible roots or yams.

Grasses such as Nirlgan ( Aristida sp- Windgrass) and Yurrgulu ( Themeda australis- kangaroo grass ) grow rapidly and set seed.

Minyjuru ( Pouteria sericea – wild prune), Ngamarnajina ( Ficus opposita – sandpaper fig ) and Yugulu ( Cassytha filiformis) are in flower.

Yirragulu ( Acacia eriopoda- pindan wattle) was used as rope in the construction of paper bark shelters.

Animal Life: ( Animals seen, young appearing, animals fat and skinny)

Nimanburr ( Pteropus alecto- flying fox) can be seen flying in large groups to feed on fruiting trees.

Barrjanyiny ( Macropus agilis nigriscens- agile wallaby) and Mirdimarlu ( Macropus rufus - plains kangaroo ) are skinny now and many have worms.

Baninyburu ( Aspidites melanocephalus - carpet snake ) is laying its eggs now. Poisonous snake are everywhere, feeding on insects and frogs- especially Mayangarra ( Acanthophis pyrrus - death adder) and wiril ( Pseudechis australi king brown snake).

The Jalangardi( Varanus gouldii- sand goanna) and Garralgarral ( Varanus acanthurus- rough tailed goanna) are having their young right now and are skinny.

Wiyurr( Hirundo rustica - barn swallows) arrive at the beginning of the season.

Jibilyurr ( ducks from the Anatidae family) arrive and build their nests, ready for breeding.

Many small bush birds breeding.

Biyarrimbin ( Trigona hockingsii- honey fly) cannot be seen now and honey is not easily collected.

Insects are abundant. Jinybalga ( grasshoppers from the Gryllidae family), Wanminy (Muscaretustissima- fly) and Ngigarangku (mosquitoes from the Culicdae famliy) are everywhere.

Frogs lay their eggs in the water and soon the pools are full of tadpoles.
