Habitat: Saline Mudflats and Sand Dunes
Season: Mankala
Plant Life: (Indications of seasonal change, plants growing rapidly, plant flowering, plants fruiting)
Murrga (Melaleuca acacides – paperbark) was used to build shelters.
Yarrinyarri (Cyperus bulbosus – bush onion) has made shoots but its bulb is not ready to pick yet.
Gumamu (santalum lanceolatum – sandalwood) is fruiting.
Animal Life: (Animals seen, young appearing, animals fat and skinny)
Mirdimarlu (Macropus rufus – plains kangaroo) are seen.
The jalangardi (Varanus gouldii – sand goanna) and Garralgarral (Varanus acanthurus – rough – tailed goanna) are having their young right now and are skinny.
The Wardi (cormorant from the Phalacrocoracidae from) arrive during this season.
The Jirinymal (Sterna hjbrida – tern) is often seen on the mudflats, and especially at this time of the year.
Insects are abundant. Jinybalga (grasshoppers from the Gryllidae family),Wanminy (Musca retustissima – fly) and Ngigarangku (mosquitoes from the Culicidae family) are everywhere. Frogs lay their egg in the water and soon the pools full of tadpoles.
