Grasses like the Nirlgan (Aristida spp-windgrass) and Yurrgulu

(Themeda austalis-kangaroo grass) soon grow to a metre in height. Their sharp,spearhead-like seeds make walking in the bush difficult.

Insects

Girrbaju (bush honey) is not collected at this because the Biyarrimbin (Trigona hockingsii-honey flies) cannot be seen. They have now closed their nests so that rain does not get in.

Insects are abundant and multiplying rapidly. Jinybalga (grasshoppers from the Gryllidae family) are everwhere. Wanminy (Musca retustissima-fly) lay their eggs in the green grass. Ngigarangku (mosquitoes from the Culcidae famliy) lay their eggs in the water. Frogs lay their eggs in the water too and soon the pools are full of tadpoles and mosquito larvae
