In the year of the Bi-Centenary, 1988, a Cultural Exchange Program was established, fostering links between Nulungu College Broome and Genazzano and Xavier Colleges in Melbourne. Brother Peter Negus (Edmund Rice Christian Brothers Community), the then Principal of Nulungu College, Brother Ian Cribb (Jesuit Order, Xavier College) and Sister Rosemary Crowe (Sisters Faithful Companions of Jesus, Genazzano College) were the initiators of the Exchange and laid the foundations for these first steps of Reconciliation between the three schools. Initially the program involved all participating students boarding in their respective destinations and attending school daily. Xavier and Genazzano students would spend from four weeks to a whole term at Nulungu College where accommodation was provided on the Campus site. Weekends were spent on various camping/fishing trips and as friendships grew, visiting students would stay overnight with local Aboriginal students. In exchange, Broome students would board at either Xavier or Hopetoun Hall (Genazzano Boarding House) and attend school on a daily basis. |
