Outcomes Based Education

Community Service program  (year 10-12 commenced with Year 10 students in 2007 and will be a requirement of the WACE from 2009.  Students need to complete 20 hours.  Schools must record achievement of this requirement on the SIRS database in the subject registration section.  The school that signs off on completion of the community service is required to keep a hard copy or electronic version.  These are retained until the students is 25 years old.  Students who change schools before they have completed 20 hours of service should take their service record to their new school.  A log book is available from the Curriculum Council heather.gibson@curriculum.wa.edu.au  )

Outcome Level Elaborations

Level one: Students see the world from their own viewpoint. They cannot connect or interpret concepts with other ideas.

Level Two: Some awareness of context (can see oneself in different environments) but students remain focused on themselves.  The students display tenuous links between ideas.

Level Three: (Explain and generalise information).  Students can link simple concepts and processes but can only explain or interpret in a simplified manner. At this level students will give information from referenced sources without much personal input and own ideas

Level Four: (Link information, express opinions)  Students are able to describe the more complex information.   At level 4 students will start to express own opinions and support with reasons.  Students can use evidence

Level Five: (Show evidence of research, understand the concepts, compare, analyse and contrast).

SMC RE teachers will REPORT on RE outcomes over a two year cycle .  All 5 outcomes will be covered each term but only 2 will be reported on for each semester.

Outcome 5 is weighted equally with the other 4 outcomes..

PLEASE NOTE:
Level descriptors are not used as a check list.  If some of the dot points are not in evidence, that does not preclude assigning a level to the work.

SMC teachers will base their levelling on 2 formal assessments on each outcome (4 and 5)   in the first semester as well as other informal assessments including observation. In levelling an outcome both parts of each outcome will be addressed.
