Young Vinnies - young people making a difference

Volunteers under the age of 30 usually work in what are known as College Conferences or Young Adult Conferences. There are 15 Young Adult Conferences and 50 College Conferences in Victoria. These young volunteers are involved in various works of the Society including Soup Vans, Kids Camps and Kids Days Out, Tutoring, Helping with the meals service at Ozanam House and other Fundraising activities. For more information about the work of Young Adult Groups and College Conferences at St Vinnies visit the Victorian Young Vinnies website at http://www.vinniesyouth.com.

YOUNG VINNIES & VINNIES YOUTH CONFERENCES

A Young Vinnies conference is a group of people aged 13 – 25 who do voluntary work in the community. They share their enthusiasm with thousands of children, giving them the chance to make new friends. Two different types of conferences are school and parish. Within the conferences the groups meet as often as possible, organize and run fundraising, clothing drives, food donations, workshops and much more.

SCHOOL YOUNG VINNIES

There are currently 24 Young Vinnies Conferences in High and Primary Schools across the state, five of which are new this year with over 400 students actively involved. There are a further 30 associated schools that consistently support our Appeals and fundraise. In our 2003 Winter Appeal over 25 schools generously contributed food, clothing, blankets and monetary donations which were collected using the initiative, drive and creativity of the students.

Within the School Conferences students organize events to raise money, collect clothing, collect food, attend workshops and to raise and inform other students about relevant issues in the community, like poverty, mental illness and refugees. It is a great way to contribute to our community, make new friends and have fun!
