GOOD STANDING POLICY

for the secondary campus.

This policy is based on the theory of behavioural consequences. Students will make choices about their behaviour, attendance and dress. Once their decision is made they then learn to live with the consequences of their choices.

Good Standing will:

Encourage students to be responsible for their behaviour.
Allow students to make choices.
Develop the concept of equality and self-worth.
Foster a belief in students that they are capable of running their own lives.
Promote pride in St Mary’s College.
Allow all students to focus on educational outcomes.

All students begin the term with Good Standing. This allows them to start the term on an equal basis with an achievable goal, that of maintaining their Good Standing.

All students have the same rights and privileges. Our aim, as a College community, is to help the students maintain Good Standing by providing a ‘Listening Hearts’ approach and a supportive environment for all.

Students who have maintained Good Standing all year will be involved in reward activities.

LOSS OF GOOD STANDING

REDEMPTION OF GOOD STANDING

Students will meet with a member of the Student Services team and negotiate a behavioural contract.

They will be expected to report to this person every day to monitor their behavior.

Students will be expected to complete this contract over a two-week period using a target card.

This contract details how long the student loses Good Standing, the consequences of this and the behaviour they need to demonstrate to win it back.

Loss of Good Standing may carry over from term to term unless the Student Services Team feels the need to use their discretion.

It will not carry over from year to year.

Dependant on the outcome of this contract, students may be recommended to the Head of Secondary to regain their Good Standing.

CERTIFICATES

At the end of the semester students who have maintained Good Standing all semester will receive a Certificate of Good Standing. These certificates will acknowledge their exemplary behaviour, their adherence to dress code and their high level of attendance. The certificate will be promoted both in the school and wider community, with the aim of raising the level of pride and the sense of achievement students feel in receiving this certificate.
